The Aam Aadmi Party has removed Raghav Chadha as its deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, replacing him with Punjab MP Ashok Mittal. In a formal communication to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, AAP demanded that no speaking time should be allotted to Chadha from the party's quota, reported The Economic Times.
The 37-year-old MP had held the position of deputy leader in the Upper House since 2023. However, just last week, the AAP excluded Chadha from its list of star campaigners for the upcoming Assembly elections. Amid swirling rumors of a party rift, Chadha's persistent silence regarding key developments within the AAP leadership has raised questions, as per multiple reports.

Despite the legal victory for Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in February, Chadha, notwithstanding his active role in the party, remained publicly silent which sparked fresh rumors about his standing. He further fueled speculations by skipping high-profile events, such as Kejriwal's press conference and the Jantar Mantar 'jan sabha' where the AAP chief launched a scathing attack on the BJP.
Chadha raised several civic issues in the Rajya Sabha in early 2026, focusing on consumer rights, middle-class relief, and social reforms, which gained citizens' attention. Key topics included demanding paternity leave as a legal right, opposing bank penalties for low minimum balances, and highlighting high food prices at airports.
Since joining the party in 2012, the chartered accountant-turned-politician has been a mainstay in Kejriwal's camp. Chadha was involved in drafting the Delhi Lokpal Bill and the party manifesto in his initial years. He currently serves on the party's Political Affairs Committee, holds the post of national treasurer, and has played a pivotal role in liaising with the INDIA bloc.

After serving as a Delhi MLA, Chadha made history as one of the youngest members of the Rajya Sabha. His administrative portfolio includes stints as vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board and advisor to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. He now serves as AAP's co-incharge for Punjab.
