A van carrying silver bricks worth an estimated Rs 17.66 crore overturned on the Charoti flyover on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway, according to a report by NDTV. The vehicle, loaded with nearly 600 kg of silver, was travelling from Mumbai towards Gujarat when the accident took place. The consignment was being transported from Nakoda Bullion Company in Mumbai to Modi Sons Limited at Vapi GIDC.
According to initial information, the driver lost control of the van on the flyover, causing it to overturn on the busy highway. The driver sustained minor injuries and was given medical assistance. No other serious injuries were immediately reported.
After receiving information about the crash, a team from Kasa police station rushed to the spot. Police cordoned off the area to secure the high-value consignment and prevent crowding around the damaged vehicle. Officials also regulated traffic movement on the stretch while recovery operations were carried out early on Friday, NDTV reported.
The silver bricks were kept under police protection as officers verified transport documents and ownership details. Further investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether speeding, a technical fault or road conditions contributed to the mishap, police said.
