A road accident in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir has claimed the lives of at least 10 soldiers, Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha confirmed on Thursday.
The bullet proof army vehicle, known as a Casspir, was heading for a mission, when it reportedly skidded off the road and fell into a 200-feet gorge.
"Deeply saddened at the loss of lives of 10 of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate road accident in Doda. We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. My deepest condolences to the grieving families," Sinha said in a post on X.
He added that the injured soldiers have been airlifted and taken to the hospital and he has directed Senior officials to ensure best possible treatment for them.
A total of 11 soldiers have been rescued after being injured in the brutal accident, as per PTI reports. The Army vehicle was badly mangled after plummeting down.
Ten of the injured soldiers have been airlifted to Udhampur command hospital for specialised treatment while one is under observation in Bhaderwah Sub-district hospital, the report added.
