With Washington looking to deepen economic engagement and strategic cooperation with India, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has unveiled an “America First” visa scheduling tool that prioritises travellers contributing to stronger ties with the United States.

Speaking during his four-day diplomatic visit to India, Rubio said the new system is designed to make visa processing faster and more efficient for business professionals and investors whose travel supports the growing partnership between the two nations.

Highlighting the expanding relationship between the US and India, Rubio said bilateral commercial engagement has grown significantly over the years, including more than $20 billion in investments by Indian companies in the United States.

He also referred to increasing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region through joint military exercises and strategic coordination.

According to NDTV, Rubio stressed that delays and inefficiencies in the consular system often obstruct important exchanges such as investment visits, business meetings and partnership negotiations.

The newly introduced scheduling mechanism, he said, seeks to remove those hurdles by prioritising applicants who help strengthen America's economic and strategic interests.

“The tool is built around a simple idea — those who contribute to stronger ties with the United States should get earlier access to visa scheduling,” Rubio said, adding that the system would especially benefit corporate travellers, investors and professionals representing Indian businesses operating in the American market.

Rubio also underlined that the initiative is not solely focused on visa applicants but is equally intended to improve the functioning of US diplomatic missions.
