LinkedIn, the professional networking platform of Microsoft, has named Daniel Shapero as its new chief executive officer. He would be succeeding Ryan Roslansky, the current CEO of the company who has been at the helm since June 2020.

Shapero, who joined LinkedIn in 2008 and was currently the chief operating officer, will now lead the executive team and report to Ryan Roslansky in his role as EVP of LinkedIn and Microsoft Office.

The company also announced that Mohak Shroff will take on the new role of President of Platforms & Digital Work, reporting to Roslansky. Shroff will oversee technology strategy and long-term innovation across LinkedIn and parts of Microsoft's business tied to the future of work.

In a corporate communication, LinkedIn said that while its leadership structure is changing, its mission “remains the same: connect the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful.”

The company added that with more than $19 billion in annual revenue, over 1.3 billion members and 70 million companies on the platform, the opportunity ahead has never been greater.

In a LinkedIn post, Shapero said, “Today, I'm taking on the role as CEO of LinkedIn. I joined LinkedIn in May 2008 as employee #300ish, and it's easy to say that my time at the company has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.”

He added that LinkedIn's mission around economic opportunity has become even more important as artificial intelligence reshapes the workplace. 

“The power of economic opportunity and the promise of LinkedIn has never been more important than it is today as the world is transformed by AI and professionals everywhere must transition along with it,” he wrote.

Shapero also thanked former LinkedIn executive Mike Gamson, Roslansky and LinkedIn employees for helping shape his journey at the company. 

“As I step into this role, similar to how I have approached new responsibilities in the past, I'll start by learning and listening… connecting with our team, members, creators, and customers,” he said.
