The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has passed an adjudication order against AWL Agri Business over a sample of its Fortune Fryola Refined Sunflower Oil that was found to be below the prescribed fortification standards.
According to the FSSAI, the sample had Vitamin A and Vitamin D levels below the prescribed limits, with a referral laboratory confirming low Vitamin D content. A penalty has been imposed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The food regulator said the action is aimed at ensuring compliance with food safety norms and reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement against violations.
Responding to the action, AWL Agri Business said it has not yet received a certified copy of the order. The company said the issue relates to the fortification level of Vitamin D in a single sample and is not a product safety concern, adding that the oil was safe for consumption.
It also noted that added vitamins are sensitive to storage conditions, light and time, and said it is reviewing the order and will pursue appropriate legal remedies while remaining committed to complying with FSSAI norms.
