US oil and gas production has reached an all-time high, according to US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who credited American workers and President Donald Trump's energy agenda for driving output higher. Wright said the surge has again positioned the United States as the world's largest producer of both oil and natural gas.

Wright made the remarks in a post on X on Aug. 23, highlighting the role of American oil and gas workers in pushing domestic production to record levels. He also said the Trump administration was building on that momentum with policies aimed at expanding energy production, supporting the economy and lowering costs.

Wright Credits Trump Energy Agenda

In his post, Wright said: “American oil and gas workers have driven production to an all-time high, making the U.S. the world's largest producer of oil and natural gas.”

He added: “Thanks to @POTUS' agenda, we're building on that success—unleashing American energy, strengthening our economy, and lowering costs.”

The comments come as the Trump administration continues to emphasise higher domestic energy output and greater energy security. Wright has been a prominent advocate of expanding US oil and gas production as part of the administration's broader energy strategy.

Wright's comments also come against the backdrop of heightened concerns over global energy supplies and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. Separately, he also said that more than 15 million barrels of oil and petroleum products had moved through the strait with US military assistance on Tuesday, while total shipments leaving the region, including pipeline volumes, approached 20 million barrels.

Hormuz Disruption Keeps Oil Markets On Edge

The geopolitical uncertainty has pushed crude prices higher again after a brief period of cooling. Brent crude ended the week at around $94.39 a barrel, gaining about 6.6% during the week, while US West Texas Intermediate settled at $87.06 a barrel.

The price rally has continued even as more oil finds alternative routes out of the Gulf. Traders remain concerned that current flows depend heavily on military support and could be vulnerable to renewed escalation. Iranian oil exports have also fallen sharply, adding to the supply risks.

Thus, record US production becomes more significant for global energy markets given the geopolitical backdrop, as higher American output could provide additional supply at a time when geopolitical risks continue to threaten oil flows from the Middle East.
