The United States issued a sharp and direct warning to its ally Oman on Thursday, threatening aggressive sanctions against any nation or entity found facilitating Iran's attempts to impose a tolling system in the Strait of Hormuz.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent delivered the warning in an unambiguous post on X.

"The United States Government will not tolerate any effort to impose a tolling system in the Strait of Hormuz. Oman, in particular, should know that the US Treasury will aggressively target any actors involved — directly or indirectly — in facilitating tolls for the Strait and any willing partners will be penalised," Bessent said.

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued a sharp warning on Thursday, accusing enemy powers of pivoting from military pressure to internal subversion in their bid to bring Iran to heel.

The remarks came as peace negotiations with the United States remained deadlocked and fresh exchanges of fire rattled a fragile ceasefire.

"The enemy's plan and scheme, following the imposed war, economic pressures, and the advertising and political siege, is to create division and social disintegration in order to compensate for the defeats in the military field and to bring the nation to its knees," Khamenei said, in a statement carried by his official media channel.

“Nobody’s going to control it. It’s international waters,” Trump said Wednesday at the White House. “The strait’s going to be open to everybody” and the US will “watch over it.”

The US and Iran tensions continue as the conflict enters 90th day with Washington launching fresh attacks against Tehran, while uncertainty over reopening of Hormuz strait remains.

Some US LPG buyers have cancelled shipments that would be bound for Asia following a surge in freight rates due to the Middle East. Nearly two cargoes scheduled to load next month from export terminals on the US Gulf Coast have been cancelled, and some buyers are in talks to terminate more shipments, Bloomberg reported citing people aware of the development.

US Central Command has claimed to attack four Iranian drones and confirmed more strikes on a manufacturing facility in Iran.

Federal Reserve Vice Chair Philip Jefferson shared his expectation that the inflation to cool later this year with the impact of tariffs and higher energy costs calm down, though he warned of continuing upside inflationary risks.

In the text of a speech to be delivered Thursday morning in Tokyo at a conference hosted by the Bank of Japan, Jefferson said he is looking for signs that higher energy costs due to the Iran war are dragging on consumer spending. 

According to Iranian media reports, three explosions were heard in the morning towards the port city of Bandar Abbas at the Strait of Hormuz.

Kuwait has claimed that it has been targeted with a missile and drone attack, without providing further details on the incident. The attack came after US reportedly carried out strikes again targeting Iran during the a fragile ceasefire.
