Russian intelligence is helping Iran target Americans and US allies, according to the European Union's foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas.

Speaking before a gathering of the Group of Seven's foreign ministers outside Paris, Kallas called on the US to step up pressure on Moscow by supporting Ukraine's effort to counter the Russian invasion.

“We see that Russia is helping Iran with intelligence to target Americans, to kill Americans,” Kallas told reporters. “Russia is also supporting Iran now with the drones so that they can attack neighboring countries and also US military bases.”

Russia has gotten a boost from the surge in oil prices that has resulted from the joint US-Israel assault on Iran, she said.

The Kremlin is earning the most from its oil exports since just after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine due in part to a surge in prices. Russia's oil income had been heading down before the US and Israel launched their campaign against Iran, amid tumbling global prices.

Rising tensions, culminating in the attack on Iran at the end of February, reversed that decline and doubled the value of Moscow's exports in the last three weeks, to an average $270 million a day from $135 million in January.

Kallas urged the US to boost support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

“These wars are very much interlinked,” Kallas said. “So if America wants the war in the Middle East to stop, Iran to stop attacking them, they should also put the pressure on Russia so that they are not able to help them in this.”
