Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings will be aiming to keep their playoff hopes alive when they square-off in match 48 of 2026 Indian Premier League at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday.
CSK head into this clash riding high after a commanding victory over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at home. Despite a mixed campaign so far, four wins and five losses, the five-time IPL champions find themselves placed sixth on the points table, but signs of a turnaround are evident.
One of the biggest positives this season has been the stellar form of Sanju Samson. The wicketkeeper-batter, who took some time to settle into a new setup, has now emerged as CSK's leading run-scorer with 315 runs, including two centuries in nine innings.
Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is also finding his rhythm at the right time, registering back-to-back unbeaten fifties in the last two matches. Adding to the batting depth, youngster Kartik Sharma impressed with a composed maiden half-century against Mumbai, showcasing promise and maturity.
With the ball, Anshul Kamboj has been a revelation. The young pacer has picked up 17 wickets, the joint-highest this season, alongside the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He has been well-supported by Jamie Overton and Noor Ahmad, who have chipped in with 10 and 9 wickets respectively. After a sluggish start, CSK now appear to be settling into a balanced and confident unit, gaining momentum at a crucial stage of the tournament.
Much like Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals have endured an inconsistent campaign, registering four wins and five losses so far. The only separating factor between the two sides is net run rate. While CSK sit marginally ahead with 0.005, DC's significantly lower -0.895 leaves them just below in seventh place.
The 2020 finalists head into this contest on the back of a convincing seven-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals, and much of their confidence stems from the sensational form of KL Rahul. The wicketkeeper-opener produced a breathtaking unbeaten 152 against Punjab Kings — the highest score by an Indian in IPL history and the third-highest individual total overall in the tournament. With 433 runs to his name, Rahul is firmly in the race for the Orange Cap, trailing leader Abhishek Sharma by only a small margin.
However, Delhi's heavy reliance on Rahul remains a concern. The lack of consistent contributions from the rest of the batting unit has been evident, with Tristan Stubbs the only other notable performer, managing 219 runs so far. The bowling unit, too, has struggled to make a consistent impact. Axar Patel leads the wicket charts for DC with eight scalps, while Lungi Ngidi has picked up seven.
The late arrival of Mitchell Starc initially disrupted their plans, but the Australian quick made an immediate impression, claiming three wickets in his first appearance of the season. With Ngidi recovering from a head injury that had sidelined him due to concussion, Delhi now look set to field a formidable pace attack featuring two world-class fast bowlers.
As they aim to build momentum, DC will hope for greater support around their in-form captain and a more cohesive team performance.

Players to watch
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings): The CSK skipper has hit a half-century in each of his last two matches. Gaikwad has been under immense pressure to deliver with the bat and he finally is timing the ball well. With Chennai's season entering a phase where every match is crucial for them, it will be interesting to see if he is able to continue his good form.
Mitchell Starc (Delhi Capitals): In his maiden appearance this season, Mitchell Starc accounted for the wickets of Yashavi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja and sent a reminder that why he is still one of the most sought after bowlers in the world despite being on the wrong side of 30s. Delhi will be hoping that Starc comes up with a spell that puts CSK batters under pressure.
