The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall for Maharashtra and Goa in the next few days, putting Mumbai on a yellow alert till May 27.
All coastal districts of Maharashtra are on a yellow to red alert, anticipating heavy rainfall due to a well-marked low-pressure area lying over the east-central Arabian Sea, off the south Konkan coast. This is expected to move nearly northwards and intensify further into a depression during the next 24 hours, the IMD said on Friday in its 2 p.m. bulletin.

As a result, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad are on a yellow to orange alert. According to the weather agency, Palghar, Thane and Mumbai will remain on a yellow alert till May 27, anticipating “thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (40-50kmph) at isolated places.”
Meanwhile, Raigad is on an orange alert during this period as “extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places” is very likely.

Mumbai Weather Forecast For Next 4 Days
Mumbai will remain under a yellow alert until May 27, with forecasts indicating thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph at isolated locations.
Heavy rainfall conditions are likely over central Maharashtra and Marathwada during this period.
Konkan And Goa Weather Forecast Till May 25
For Goa, the IMD has warned about “strong surface winds at isolated places.” It said that isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely from May 23–25 in the Konkan and Goa region.
During this period, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected in Gujarat, the Met department said.
