-Incessant rainfall over the last two days in Haryana's Ambala has led to severe waterlogging across residential and commercial zones. Traffic on the service lane was affected as rainwater accumulated on the Ambala-Amritsar Highway.
The wholesale cloth market, Nadi Mohalla, Model Town, Court Road, and Sectors 7, 9, and 10, were submerged, causing traffic disruptions and affecting residents. All government and private schools have been closed by the administration as floodwater entered many schools.
Floodwater also entered the deputy commissioner's office, the SDM Office, and the Mode Town police post. In view of the prevailing inclement weather, the Ambala district administration has activated emergency protocols.

-At Majnu ka Tila, the busy market fell silent after water entered the lanes. Shopkeeper Anup Thapa said he evacuated his store around 11 pm. 'We shifted most of our goods, but some still got spoiled. Even after the water goes, we will have to repair the shop, which will cost us,' he said.
Thapa, who lived with his wife and a three-year-old daughter beside the shop, has moved to a roadside camp. 'This is the second time after 2023. I urge the government to clean the streets and fix the area so that such incidents don't happen again,' he added, pointing to electric wires hanging dangerously low above the floodwater.
In Madanpur Khadar, families who lost their jhuggis are staying under old plastic sheets tied along the roadside. 'All our belongings are inside. We could barely take out a few things. Women are facing a lot of problems as there are no toilets,' said Tayara, a resident.

-Streets turned into streams and marketplaces into pools of murky water as residents of low-lying Delhi areas rushed to save their lives and belongings as the Yamuna continued to swell. From shopkeepers in Majnu ka Tila to families in Madanpur Khadar and Badarpur, many now live in makeshift shelters, waiting for the waters to recede.
Authorities evacuated people from low-lying areas and closed the Old Railway Bridge for traffic. But for displaced families, the real struggle will begin once the river recedes, as they piece together homes and livelihoods washed away by the flood.

The weather department has warned of heavy showers lashing several parts of the national capital, where skies remained overcast in the afternoon, and many areas received intermittent rains.
The primary weather station at Safdarjung reported 19.8 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am. Palam recorded 9.1 mm, Lodhi Road 11.4 mm, Ridge 28.2 mm, and Ayanagar 5.7 mm of rainfall. The central, east, northeast, Shahdara, south and southeast Delhi are under a red alert for showers.
On the other hand, New Delhi, north, northwest, southwest and west Delhi, as well as Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram in the National Capital Region have been placed under an orange alert.

-More than 7,500 people have been evacuated from low-lying flooded areas as the Yamuna river level rose to 207 metres at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) on Wednesday. The evacuees have been accommodated at 25 locations where relief camps have been set up. The Yamuna river in Delhi had crossed the evacuation mark on Tuesday, as the water level was recorded at 206.03 metres and has been increasing since.

-Water from the surging Yamuna inundated several low-lying areas in the national capital, forcing residents to gather their belongings and relocate to relief camps even as the government activated a comprehensive flood preparedness plan to safeguard citizens and critical infrastructure.
According to officials, about 4,500 people have been shifted to relief camps so far in the national capital. They said that the discharge from Hathnikund Barrage decreased to 1.42 lakh cusecs of water this morning.
The floodwaters inundated Yamuna Khadar submerging homes, forcing families to seek refuge in temporary relief camps. Similarly, in areas such as Monastery Market near Kashmere Gate, Vasudev Ghat, and Yamuna Bazaar, shops and residences were inundated, leaving many displaced.

-The Delhi government has taken several measures in the past six months to increase the carrying capacity of the Yamuna river, Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Minister Parvesh Verma said on Wednesday.
The minister, who was on an inspection visit at the ITO barrage, assured people that there is no need to worry or panic over the rising Yamuna river levels, as the situation is under control. According to the Delhi government, continuous 24x7 monitoring of water discharge from the three barrages — Hathnikund, Wazirabad, and Okhla — is being carried out.
'In the past six months, steps have been taken by different departments to increase the carrying capacity of the river. Currently, the situation is under control, and even if the level rises by one or two metres more, water will not enter Delhi roads like it did in 2023,' Verma told reporters.

-More than 10 people were rescued from Jharoda Kalan village in the Najafgarh area here after parts of the locality were inundated following heavy rain on Tuesday. Multiple teams, including that of Delhi Police, were rushed to the spot and those stranded were safely evacuated.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, August this year ended with a monthly rainfall of 400.1 mm, which is 72% above the long-period average (LPA) of 233.1 mm. This made it the wettest August since 2010, when Delhi had recorded 455.1 mm of rainfall. Gurugram struggles through intense waterlogging across several sectors after heavy showers.
Dark clouds hovered over the skyline, and steady rain was witnessed from morning hours, keeping the city wet throughout the day. The city crossed the 1,000-mm mark after two continuous days of intermittent showers.
