Cyclone Fengal Updates: As per the latest bulletin shared by the India Meteorological Department, the impending cyclonic storm Fengal is closing in on the Tamil Nadu coast. The weather department mentioned that the deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal remained practically stationary during the past 6 hours. The weather system was located about 480 km south-southeast of Chennai and 410 km southeast of Puducherry. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards skirting Sri Lanka's coast during the next 12 hours.
Most importantly IMD stated that there is a possibility of marginal intensification of the deep depression into a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of up to 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the evening of November 28 to the morning of November 29 2024.

Cyclone Fengal: Landfall Date, Place And Time
As per the latest update provided by IMD, Cyclone Fengal is likely to cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around the morning of November 30 as a deep depression with a wind speed of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph.

IMD has issued an orange alert for many districts in Tamil Nadu with the possibility of very heavy rainfall on November 28.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram and Cuddalore districts.
A yellow alert has also been issued to other coastal regions along the coast of TN.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai and Karaikal area.
Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over North coastal Tamil Nadu-Puducherry on November 28 and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over north Tamil Nadu–Puducherry on November 29 & 30 with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over coastal Tamil Nadu on November 30.

Rough to very rough sea conditions is likely along & off the Tamil Nadu coast as well as Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coasts till November 29. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining areas of west-central Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and along & off TamilNadu-Puducherry, South Andhra Pradesh and East Sri Lanka coasts till the evening of November 30.
Are Schools and Colleges Closed in Chennai And Other Districts in Tamil Nadu?
All government, government-aided schools, private schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions remained closed on Thursday due to heavy rain, said Education Minister Arumugam Namassivayam.
Schools and colleges in the following nine districts of Tamil Nadu - Villupuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Ramanathapuram, and Trichy will observe a holiday today.
Meanwhile, schools in Chennai will remain open today.
