Phase one of the pilot program of the PM Internship Scheme has drawn around 280 companies to the initiative, and online applications have been submitted from over 740 districts across India, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday.
Launched in October, the internship scheme is aimed at providing training to one crore youth in the top 500 companies over the next five years.
"Under Phase 1 of the Pilot Scheme, around 280 companies have joined the initiative, and online applications have been submitted from over 740 districts across India. Among these, individuals from more than 570 districts have successfully joined as #PMInterns," the minister said in a post on the social media platform X.

AdvertisementIn a thread, she shared the story of Tannu Rattan, a 23-year-old pharma graduate, who has joined Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Jammu as an intern, and of 21-year-old Uday Kiran from an Andhra Pradesh village who secured an internship at a Maruti Suzuki Ltd. unit.
Selected interns will be paid Rs 4,500 per month as a stipend by the government through Direct Benefit Transfer. An additional Rs 500 per month will be provided by the company's corporate social responsibility funds.
AdvertisementThe government will also provide a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 to candidates at the time of joining through DBT.
Besides, the Centre will ensure interns are covered under schemes such as the ‘PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana' and ‘PM Suraksha Bima Yojana,' with the insurance premiums paid by the government.
