Billionaire Gautam Adani received the USIBC 2022 Global Leadership Award on Wednesday for his contribution to strengthening India-U.S. partnership.

The U.S. India Business Council conferred the award to the Adani Group chairman at its India Ideas Summit in New Delhi.

"While negotiators from both our countries have struggled to reach a deal on a trade package and tariffs, I believe we are closer than ever before to address the open matters," Adani said at the summit.

Adani, while delivering his speech at the summit, highlighted that the joint ability of India and the U.S. to impact the world has "never been greater and the need has never been larger". The Adani Group chairman pointed out the strategic areas where both the nations need to make a combined effort. These areas are climate change, semiconductors, healthcare and defence and cyber.

"I would therefore urge the USIBC to facilitate a broader platform that brings together executives from similar industries on both sides on a regular basis. There are a lot of gains to divide with the size of the two economies beginning to converge as we approach 2050," Adani said.

The Global Leadership Award, presented annually since 2007, acknowledges the active and dynamic commitment of top corporate executives in strengthening U.S-India partnerships, Press Trust of India had reported on Sept. 2, citing a statement from the council.

Previous recipients of this award include Jeff Bezos, founder, executive chairman and former president and CEO of Amazon; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Adena Friedman, president and CEO of Nasdaq; Fred Smith, founder and chairman of FedEx Corporation; and Uday Kotak, CEO of Kotak Mahindra.
