Air India has appointed Singapore Airlines' low-cost carrier Scoot's CEO Campbell Wilson as its new chief executive officer and managing director.

The Air India board has approved Wilson's appointment, subject to requisite regulatory approvals, the Tata Group said in a statement.

“I am delighted to welcome Campbell to Air India. He is an industry veteran having worked in key global markets cutting across multiple functions,” N Chandrasekaran, chairman, Air India, said.

Air India would benefit from his added experience of having built an airline brand in Asia, Chandrasekaran said. “I look forward to working with him in building a world-class airline.”

Wilson has over 26 years of aviation industry expertise, with both full service and low-cost airlines. His last working day at Scoot will be June 16.

Campbell's appointment comes nearly two months after the former chairman of Turkish Airlines, Ilker Ayci declined the role to be the CEO of the debt-laden carrier, days after the announcement of his appointment led to opposition in India.
