The Nifty 50 ended 43.4 points, or 0.18% down at 23,559.95, and the Sensex settled 198 points, or 0.25% down at 77,860.19.

Rupee strengthened by 15 paise to close at 87.43, against the US Dollar after the RBI cut interest rates. The Governor said interventions in forex market do not target any level for the rupee.
