Indices End Lower

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 162.45 points or 0.69% lower at 23,526.50, while the BSE Sensex closed 528.28 points or 0.68% down at 77,620.21.

Top Laggards 

Oil & Natural Gas Corp., Shriram Finance, Bharat Petroleum Corp., Coal India and Tata Motors were among the top Nifty losers.

Top Gainers 

Nestle India, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindustan Unilever and Britannia Industries gained the most in an otherwise falling market.

Sectors

On the NSE, 11 out of the 12 sectors declined, with the Nifty Realty and Energy dragging the most.

Market Breadth

The market breadth was skewed in favour of the sellers as 2,728 stocks declined, 1,229 advanced and 110 remained unchanged on the BSE.

Broader Market 

The broader markets underperformed as the BSE MidCap and SmallCap ended 0.96% and 1.17% down respectively.

Rupee

The rupee ended at a record closing low against US dollar as it weakened by 1 paise to close at 85.86.
