Stock Market Jan. 8 Highlights: Nifty, Sensex Gainers And Losers

Here's how the Indian stock markets fared on Wednesday.

Indices End Flat

The Nifty 50 ended 18.95 points, or 0.080% higher at 23,688.95, and the Sensex added 50.62 points, or 0.065% to close at 78,148.49.

Top Laggards 

Among the losers were share prices of Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd., Trent Ltd., Shriram Finance Ltd., Bajaj Auto Ltd., and UltraTech Cement Ltd.

Top Gainers 

Oil & Natural Gas Corp., Reliance Industries Ltd., Asian Paints Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corp., and ITC Ltd. were among the top Nifty gainers.

Sectors End Mixed

Out of 12 sectors, nine ended in red and three ended in green. Nifty IT, Nifty Oil and Gas and Nifty FMCG were the only sectors in green.

Market Breadth

Market breadth was skewed in the favour of buyers. Around 2,579 stocks declined, 1,391 stocks advanced, and 96 stocks remained unchanged on BSE.

Broader Market 

Broader markets underperformed benchmark indices. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended 1.09% and 1.12% down, respectively.

Rupee ends at record closing low against dollar as it weakened by 14 paise to close at 85.86 against the US dollar.
