The NSE Nifty 50 ended 0.42% or 98.60 points up at 23,311.80 and the BSE Sensex closed 0.42% or 318.74 points higher at 77,042.82.

Among the losers were shares of Infosys Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., Shriram Finance Ltd., Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

Five out of the 12 sectors on the NSE ended in the red, with the Nifty Oil & Gas and Energy being the top gainers.

The market breadth was skewed in favour of the buyers as 2,028 stocks advanced, 1,902 declined and 129 remained unchanged on the BSE.

The broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices as the BSE MidCap ended 0.02% higher and the SmallCap was flat.

The rupee ended weaker against US Dollar as it fell seven paise to close at 86.61.
