India's leading automakers, from Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. to Bajaj Auto Ltd. and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., are reporting their monthly sales data today. Here's a look at the numbers:

Auto Sales In April 2024: Mahindra & Mahindra

  • Total sales at 70,471 units, up 13% YoY

  • Domestic PV sales at 41,008 units, up 18% YoY

  • Total exports at 1,857 units, up 2% YoY

  • Domestic tractor sales at 35,805 units, up 1% YoY

  • Tractor exports at 1,234 units, up 23% YoY

  • Total sales up 35% YoY at 5.33 lakh units

Auto Sales In April 2024: Ashok Leyland

Total sales at Ashok Leyland Ltd. rose 10% over the previous year to 14,271 units in April 2024, according to an exchange filing on Thursday.

Domestic sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles rose 16% year-on-year to 8,611 units last month, as against 7,422 units a year ago. Sales actually declined for light commercial vehicles—from 4,944 units in April 2023 to 4,835 units in April 2024.

Auto Sales In April 2024: Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield, a unit of Eicher Motors Ltd., clocked 12% increase in total sales to 81,870 units in April 2024, as against 73,136 units a year ago.

Sales of 350 cc motorcycles rose 13% year-on-year to 72,866 units, as per an exchange filing on Wednesday. As many as 9,004 units of 450 cc and 650 cc motorycles were sold last month, as against 8,408 a year ago.

The international business grew 61% year-on-year to 6,832 units.

Auto Sales In April 2024: Maruti Suzuki

Total sales of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. rose 4.7% over the previous year to 1.68 lakh units in April 2024, acccording to an exchange filing Wednesday.

Total domestic sales, including those of LCV Super Carry, rose marginally to 1,40,448 units last month as against 1,39,519 units in the year-ago period.

Sales to Toyota Kirloskar India Ltd., which rebadges some Maruti Suzuki cars as its own, stood at 5,481 as against 4,039 units a year ago.

Exports surged 30.57% year-on-year to 22,160 units.

Sales in the 'mini+compact' segment declined by almost a fourth year-on-year to 68,472 units. The utility vehicle segment—comprising the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto and Jimny—surged 53% to 56,553 units.

Auto Sales In April 2024: Tata Motors

Total sales of Tata Motors Ltd. rose 11.38% over the previous year to 77,521 units, according to an exchange filing on Wednesday.

  • Total India sales rose 12% YoY to 76,399 units

  • India CV sales rose 33% YoY to 28,516 units

  • India car sales rose 2% YoY to 47,883 units

  • India EV sales fell 2% YoY to 6,364 units

The automaker sold a total of 29,538 units in April, clocking a 31% growth year-on-year. Total car sales rose 2% year-on-year to 47,983 units.

Auto Sales In April 2024: Hyundai India

Total sales at Hyundai Motor India Pvt. Ltd. rose by nearly 10% over the previous year on the back of higher demand for SUVs and exports.

In the month of April 2024,

  • Domestic sales rose 1.0% YoY to 50,201 units.

  • Exports rose 58.8% YoY to 13,500 units.

  • Total sales rose 9.5% to 63,701 units.

“In April 2024, Hyundai Motor India achieved fourth consecutive month of 50,000-plus units in domestic sales during CY24," Tarun Garg, chief operating officer at the Creta maker, said in a statement on Wednesday. "Driven by models like the Creta, Venue and Exter, SUVs continued to be a growth driver contributing 67% of domestic sales.”

Auto Sales In April 2024: Toyota India

Total sales of Toyota Kirloskar Motor India Pvt. Ltd. grew by a third over the previous year as rebadging of Maruti Suzuki's cars continued to bear fruit.

The maker of the Innova and Fortuner utility vehicles sold 20,492 units in April 2024 as against 15,510 units a year ago—a year-on-year growth of 32%, according to a company statement on Wednesday. Domestic sales accounted for 18,700 units while exports totalled 1,794 units.

"The growth momentum was sustained despite a week-long maintenance shutdown from April 6-14 for the upkeep of machinery and equipment to sustain operational efficiencies, productivity and safety," the carmaker said.

On year-to-date basis, total sales rose 48% year-on-year to 97,503 units.

"Our diversified portfolio has been instrumental in driving our growth," Sabari Manohar, vice president (sales) at Toyota Kirloskar, said in the statement. "The recent addition to our SUV lineup, the All-New Urban Cruiser Taisor, further reflects our commitment to meeting evolving market demands."

Auto Sales In April 2024: Escorts Kubota

Total sales of Escorts Kubota Ltd. declined over the previous year as the uptake of commercial vehicles in the world's largest automotive market remained muted.

In April 2024,

  • Domestic tractor sales fell 1.2% YoY to 7,168 units.

  • Tractor exports rose 10.9% YoY to 347 units.

  • Total tractor sales fell 0.7% YoY to 7,515 units.

"Despite the festive season shifting to April this year, the demand for tractors was impacted due to ongoing elections, low reservoir levels, decreased haulage, and moderate rabi output," the company said in an exchange filing on Wednesday.

"However, we expect sentiments to improve post elections, especially with forecasts predicting near- to above-normal monsoon this year."
