Sandhya Devanathan has been appointed as the Vice President of Meta India today by Facebook parent company Meta, days after Ajit Mohan left Meta Platforms to join rival Snap Inc. Sandhya Devanathan was appointed following a spate of senior exits from Meta India. Earlier this week, Abhijit Bose, the CEO of WhatsApp in India, and Rajiv Aggarwal, the director of public policy for Meta Platforms in India, both announced their resignations.

Beginning January 1, 2023, Devanathan will officially take up the position and report to Dan Neary, the vice president of Meta APAC (Asia Pacific). Her job will be to coordinate the organization's income and business priorities in order to promote long-term expansion. She'll relocate back to India and join the APAC leadership group.

In a press release, Marne Levine, Meta’s Chief Business Officer stated, “I’m pleased to welcome Sandhya as our new leader for India. Sandhya has a proven track record of scaling businesses, building exceptional and inclusive teams, driving product innovation and building strong partnerships. We are thrilled to have her lead Meta’s continued growth in India.”

To promote revenue growth in important channels, Devanathan will oversee the company's India mission and fortify ties with top brands, advertisers, creators, and partners. India is the biggest market for Meta's family of applications, which includes Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with a combined user base of more than a billion monthly users.

Devanathan's appointment occurs as Facebook faces regulatory hurdles in India with the government’s recent tightening of regulations governing Big Tech corporations.
