Airtel, Idea, Vodafone Slash National Roaming Rates

Telecom operators Bharti Airtel, Idea and Vodafone on Thursday announced reduction in national roaming tariff with effect from May 1, following a decision by telecom regulator TRAI to reduce the ceiling tariffs.

Country's third largest mobile operator Idea Cellular slashed roaming tariff by up to 40 per cent, while Vodafone India and Airtel cut their roaming rates by 75 per cent.

Idea will now charge incoming calls at 45 paise/minute, while outgoing local call rates have been reduced by 20 per cent and STD call rates by 23 per cent. Local SMS on Idea network will now cost 25 paise and STD SMS 38 paise, while roaming nationally.

Vodafone India customers will now have to pay 45 paise per minute for incoming calls; while outgoing local and STD calls will be charged at 80 paise and Rs 1.15 paise per minute. For a local text while on roaming, it will now charge 25 paise.

India's biggest mobile carrier, Bharti Airtel has slashed outgoing inter circle call rates up to 23 per cent and outgoing local call tariff up to 20 per cent. Incoming call rate have been reduced up to 40 per cent.

TRAI earlier this month had cut the maximum or ceiling rate that a telecom operator can charge for STD calls on roaming to Rs 1.15 per minute from Rs 1.50.
