Elon Musk's X Completes Changing URL From Twitter.com To X.com
In October 2022, Elon Musk bought the social media platform for $44 billion. He had stated that "buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app".
Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, on Friday changed its website URL from Twitter.com to X.com. The X team was working on transferring the URL for almost a year. Elon Musk renamed Twitter to X in July 2023.
The company, in a statement on the website, said, "We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same. For more details, see our Privacy Policy: https://x.com/en/privacy."
Twitter has started 302 redirecting all URLs to use http://x.com/ as the default, according to a post by @xDaily.
The use of a 302 redirect is likely a temporary measure to indicate to Google that Twitter is not fully ready for the change. It is expected that this will soon switch to a 301 redirect, which may cause some disruption. "This could lead to Google temporarily halting the display of Twitter carousels, resulting in a significant impact on Twitter's traffic," X Daily News said.
Further, the X Daily News account urged users to inform the X team if they notice any bugs with the new URL. The team has identified a possibly unintended issue with people's cookies being deleted which may wipe their search history. They said the team is tracking issues as they come in.
In a post on X, Elon Musk wrote, "All core systems are now on X.com"

Last year, Musk announced that the platform will say goodbye to the Twitter brand, and the bird logo as well. The rebranding has now been completed.
